Can anyone recommend an authentic Montessori school that goes past kindergarten in the St. Louis area? I've been in touch with Chesterfield Montessori and it looks great but would like to find one that is not so far west.

I have looked on the Montessori website and found all their listings but wonder if anyone can provide any further input.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know of any other Montessori schools besides that one. Have you looked at the College School in Webster Groves? It may be an option. I've heard great things about it.

Have you looked at the other independent schools in St. Louis? This website will list their members. You may find something like the Montessori approach that you're looking for.

We know people who sent their kids to Villa Di Maria Montessori School in Kirkwood and were happy with the school. It goes up to age 12. There is another school, Des Peres Montessori that is also in the Kirkwood area and goes up to age 12, but I don't know anyone with experience with that school.

There is a magnet elementary Montessori school in the City. It is free, but I have heard that some of the teachers aren't properly certified in the Montessori method. There is also a new charter Montessori school, City Garden, in the city, but you have to live within a certain neighborhoods of the city to apply and I don't know anyone who sends their kids to that school. St. Margaret of Scotland in the Shaw neighborhood has a Montessori preschool and then an elementary school. I don't know how far they take the Montessori through the grades, but the school is very well regarded. We know plenty of families that send their kids to St. Margaret and they are very, very happy.

Good luck!

Have you heard anything about Kirkwood Children's House? I see that they only go through kindergarten but will check into them, as well. Thanks for the school info... am looking into Villa Di Maria. Do you know anything specific about why your friends were so pleased with Villa Di Maria?

Thanks again.

I don't know anything about Kirkwood Children's House, or specifics as to why my friends were happy with Villa di Maria. The school came up in a conversation about summer camps, so I learned a lot about Villa di Maria's summer camp program, but not much about the regular school program except that their kids really liked it. Sorry!

Default Great Montessori School

My daughter attends Des Peres Montessori school and it is wonderful. It is an authentic school with only AMI certified teachers. It has wonderful experiences for the child. For example, my daughter is studying the discovery and expansion of America. Currently she learning about Lewis and Clark. In April 2009, we are going on a 5 day trip along the Missouri River (by land) to experience what Lewis and Clark experienced. My daughter has been attending since 4 1/2 years old and graduates from the sixth grade this year. The school accepts children ages 2-12. The Directress is Mrs. Anjana Choudhuri and their number is 314-432-0410. I do hope you call and if you do I am sure she and I could tell you more about the school.

I knew someone who taught at the Montessori school near Olive and Mason Roads in Creve Coeur and she really enjoyed it. Not sure on their age ranges but they can help you out. The name of the school escapes me. It is on Mason Road just South of Olive Road about a quarter of a mile or so.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I appreciate the help. Can anyone comment on Chesterfield Montessori School? I know I already mentioned it in a previous post but would like to hear anyone's feedback on the school. Anyone know anyone who has children there?

Thanks again.
