I have two daughters and a son, in high school and middle school. We are coming from Kirkwood, which has become too expensive. We're moving to an area just west of Tower Grove South, to a neighborhood that is mostly middle class and perfectly safe.

Do people send their kids to public schools in St. Louis? Would someone living in a good neighborhood almost certainly send them to private school? I would like to know if there are any good public schools around or are we pretty much out of luck in that regard? (We probably cannot afford a private school).

Thanks, comments are appreciated.

There are good magnet schools in the city but you have to apply to them. If you just go to the local neighborhood public school you are likely to be quite disappointed. Because most parents that value education send their kids to the magnet schools it further dilutes the quality of students in the neighborhood school. And then the expectation for the education gets lowered.
