Always liked going to West County Plaza, especially after the remodeling. Recommended it to visiting friends as one of St. Louis' more sophisticated shopping environments.

But on the last couple of visits there was this really annoying recording being broadcast in some of the parking lots on a continuous loop. I paraphrase but: "Welcome to Westfield Shopping Plaza. You are in the north-west parking area...Welcome to Westfield Shopping Plaza. You are in the..."

It was really loud and very, very obnoxious. Does anyone know if this cheesy recording is still blaring away?

Really kind of ruined the whole experience and I felt embarrassed for the city in front of the out-of-towners. Reminded me of Big Brother (Orwell not the TV show) in a BIG way.

LOL! Wow, that sucks. How recent was this? I haven't been to that mall in awhile...maybe if they get enough complaints, they'll hush "Big Brother" up and let folks park in peace

They can't say that anymore because they're no longer a Westfield. They covered up all the signs that said Westfield when I was there for the holidays. They're owned by another company now, as are several other malls in StL.

Here's a little more info on this as well as an open-air expansion they're doing to West County too: STLtoday.com - Business News - Blog Archive - Barnes & Noble to join West County Center (http://www.stltoday.com/blogzone/business-news/business-ticker/2008/01/barnes-noble-to-join-west-county-center/ - broken link)

Somebody needs to tell the person who left the first comment on that article attached above to get out more, or toughen up more ...and more specifically to colder places who have thriving, successful outdoor malls, in Chicago(Old Orchard), Milwaukee,(Glendale) as well as other places.
