Hi all. We'll be driving to St. Louis, our newly adopted city, on the 22nd of December. Not sure where we'll be staying but I imagine my husband's new company will be putting us up in a hotel somewhere around Chesterfield (we'll have 2 dogs with us -- anyone know a decent hotel that takes pets?).

Anyway, would love suggestions on St. Louis traditions, must sees, etc. for Christmas Eve, Day & New Years. Is there a Christmas lights show? A great place for Christmas Eve or day dinner or brunch? Anything fun on The Hill during that time? High mass at the Basillica worth attending? New Years Eve event of parade the next day. Must be age appropriate for a 10 and 14 year old (girls).

Would welcome your help. This will be a tough Christmas season for us -- in a hotel & in a new city we know little about! Thanks,

Mary-Iris

Default Hi Mary-Iris...

if ya'll decide to venture into Illinois, check out 'Our Lady of the Snow Shrine'...beautiful drive thru light display.

National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows

Wish I could help you more with your questions but I'm sure several folks will be along soon with good info. I do know first hand how difficult it is to be displaced during the holiday season, so I feel for ya!!!

Best of luck to you...hope your move goes smoothly!

Go see Winter Wonderland in Tilles Park. So beautiful. St Louis County Parks and Recreation Winter Wonderland (broken link)
It's not really Christmas for me until I've gone.

Ditto for Tilles Park. The Busch Brewery just south of downtown has a great light display also.

If this hotel allows pets, I would stay there for sure. Drury's are my favorite hotel chain. You will love the one here as it is on a parking lot of a large mall with some great restaurants all around it.

As for a neat xmas thing to do, just a few miles from the hotel there is a home that you can drive by that has the best display of any home in the area. It's huge and the lights move to music that you listen to by tuning your radio to a frequency that will be posted at the entrance. The home is just off Ladue Road just east of Mason Road on the north side. Here's a link for a map:

Default Drury is pet friendly

I have stayed in Drury Inns from Missouri to Texas and all have accepted pets. Some have pet charges, some do not but they are very nice hotels and I believe the one at Chesterfield Mall is fairly new. We lived in St Louis for 16 years (Ballwin actually) until 2004 when we were transferred to Nebraska, yuk. I wish I was still in Ballwin, we loved it there and made many good friends that we still visit and believe it or not, they come here to see us. I am from Arkansas originally and if not for the fact that I will be retiring to Hot Springs Village, I would be on my way back to Ballwin in three years.

You will love it there and good luck.
