I'm sure everyone has seen this video about the cops in St George, a suburb of STL:

STLtoday - News - Special Reports (http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/news/special/srlinks.nsf/story/9AA8B7F1CC9DD78986257353007A90C6?OpenDocument - broken link)

But then I read the 21 forum pages for this story and almost every post says that St George cops are notorious for this kind of behavior:

STLtoday.com Blogs - News - Talk of the Day - Do you have experience with speed traps? Angry cops?

Is this all just hype or should I avoid looking at homes in the St George area?

Thanks

St. George is just a small little city within South St. Louis County. The police there are fine. It has been known as a speed trap for the forty-one years that I've been driving (man it seems like yesterday when I was taking my driving test). The reason is they have nothing else to do. How long does it take to patrol a town of less than a 1000? Then all they have to do is sit on the one main street that goes through it and catch "lawbreakers" as they say. It would be difficult to even know you were in St. George and not just driving around anywhere in St. Louis.

By the way, don't forget, the driver knew he was on tape. Why didn't he get out of the car when the officer asked him to? It was after two in the morning. What kind of adrenaline is going through that officer's blood when someone isn't listening to him in a vacant parking lot? Don't get me wrong, this officer could be (and does seem to be) way out of control. I just don't judge till I hear both sides.

We moved to St. Louis in 1983 after t years in Chicago and we loved it! So many things to do and a great place for raise a family. Has a lot of culture for a relatively small city. I never even heard of St. George!!! People are surprised at how much St. Louis has to offer. If you can stand the hot, humid summers!
