Hey everyone. I am a Joplin, MO. native, about to be stationed in St. Louis (currently in California). I'm looking for an apartment southwest of 1222 Spruce Street (which is where I will be working), but preferably within a 20 minute commute.

I'm a small town guy, so the more "rural", the better. Can anyone suggest any good apartments in the area?

Hey I work in the RAY building too. If you want "rural" within a 20 minute commute to downtown you will have to head east. I am not terribly versed in the Metro east but I know it is mostly all rural with a bunch of suburban communities scattered around. Maybe look into Shiloh, Dupo, or Troy.

Well, living in the southwest is more important to me than living "rural", as I will be travelling to and from Springfield/Joplin a couple times a month. Thank you for your timely response and your help.

If you look on the IL side, make sure to factor in the bridge traffic crossing the Mississippi river.

ETA: I'm not sure you can find someplace rural within 20 minutes of downtown on the MO side--it would be denser suburban at best. I would look for places just off 44 outside the city.

Within 20 minutes going southwest (I-44) would put you at roughly Webster Groves/Kirkwood. Nice area but pricey and walkable suburban. Not sure that's what you're looking for. I think something like Valley Park, Fenton and Eureka would be up your alley on the MO side but you're looking at a 30-45 minute commute at that point.

Hmm...well, I'm currently at CAMSPAC now (I have no idea if you know what that is) and I make a 75-90 minute commute 1 way, so 30 to 40 isn't too bad, but 20 is even better

Eureka/Wildwood, beautiful, but will be a 45-60 minute commute, but puts you that much closer to Springfield.
