I'm new to the area, and will need to get a Missouri driver's license (coming from out of state), as well as register a new car. I couldn't find much info online, only this:

LICENSE MANAGEMENT, LLC
7638 FORSYTH BLVD
CLAYTON, MO 63105

Office Manager: MATTHEW CARROLL
Phone: (314) 863-5331
Fax: (314) 863-6779

Days Open:
Monday - Friday 9:00 to 6:00
First and Last Saturday 9:00 to 1:00

Is this the right place to go? Are the lines horrendous? Should I plan to be there all day?

I went to the Maplewood DMV on a Saturday, got there right as it opened, and there were like 2 people there. It could be hit or miss, but I would recommend getting there right as it opens.

Haven't been to that DMV, but I've never had much problem at MO DMV offices. I would suspect that lunch hour and their Saturday hours are the busiest.

Almost missed a flight out of O'Hare because of the Chicago DMV a few years ago and when I moved to Kansas they didn't even print out a license for me that day. They literally gave me a receipt with my face on it and told me to wait 5-8 business days for my real one to arrive in the mail. I guess they sold their printers and privatized the whole thing.

My husband and I went to that office about a week ago in the middle of the day and we were the only ones there. The great thing about the DMV here is that you can get your license plates in the same place.

Good luck! And welcome to St. Louis!

The worst times to visit those DMV places is at the beginning of the month and also at the end of the month. Likewise on each day try to avoid right before they close (especially on Saturdays), as well as lunchtime. If you can avoid those prime times they are not too bad. I have only used the ones in Maplewood, Olivette or Creve Coeur in the past few years, but I am guessing they are all similar in terms of their peak times. I remember going to lunch one Saturday at a restaurant near the Creve Coeur DMV and seeing the line go out the door. Not a good time to visit!

It's kind of infuriating if you've never done it before in Missouri. You need a check list of stuff - car title, current insurance card, cash (they don't accept credit cards or checks I don't think), proof of address residency, saftey and emissions inspection, a paid property tax receipt (!)... I think I am missing some things but there must be a list on the dmv website. Don't expect much cooperation from the people working at the license bureau if you have questions. Took me a couple trips to get it right.

Checks are accepted. And I'm pretty sure you can use plastic with an additional fee.

The main DMV in downtown Clayton is a pain in the rump, thanks to parking difficulty and major lines. If avoidable, do so. I agree with Zach, plan on being sent home for something. The inevitable.
