Hello, I am considering a move to St. Louis, I live in Raleigh, NC (my favorite areas here are downtown and Northhills) and have never been to STL before. I was hoping to get some input regarding neighborhoods. I would like to be able to get to the airport within 15 to 20 minutes (with traffic). We are mid to late 30's with no children. I would like to live close to a variety of bars and restaurants and I need some sort of yard for my large dogs. I could spend up to about $400K for the right home but would prefer to stay around $250K. I work from home and we have visitors so we need 3 or 4 bedrooms. Thanks so much for any information!!!

University City immediately comes to mind--close to the airport, could find a place with a yard, lots of bars & restaurants.

I second University City! Beautiful housing stock and A LOT of it right now.

Check out these websites:

The Loop area is on Delmar Boulevard just north of Washington University. The Loop is your "lots of bars and restaurants" hub.

Question...why?

Most likely you'll move here and...

hate the weather
hate the traffic
you won't be able to find a job

Seriously, there are FAR better places to consider living.

^Stupid post.

The weather is fine most of the year. Traffic is a joke compared to most cities and the economy here is at least stable and not a total mess like some cities.

There are many good reasons to move here. A reasonable cost of living, great neighborhoods, a ton of livable communities, down to Earth people, amazing housing stock, and tons to do most of the year.

Like Florida (where you're living) where unemployment is almost 12% (as opposed to the 9.3% here?)

OP, don't worry about the troll.

And the weather here is lovely, imo. I love the four distinct seasons, and obviously coming from Raleigh you're used to the humid summers!

I think zoomzoom3 could not possibly live here in St. Louis if he is complaining about the weather. The past couple months the weather has been incredibly pleasant here (like today which is just about perfect, sunny with a high in the mid 70's). How could you possibly hate that?

Incidentally, my first thought when I heard 30's with no kids, nearby bars and restaurants and large dogs, I also thought of U City, since I always know to watch my step when walking around the residential sidewalks there (my shoes seem magnetically attracted to dog poop!) If I were still in my 30's and could get rid of the kids, I'd be there as well, along with some spare shoes.
