A bit of a subpar weekend, IMO. The ladies match came down to whether the Czech could hit it past the Italian, which she did, then didn't, then did just enough of to win. Paolini plays hard but doesn't have much punch to her game.
Alcaraz was the far superior player. Novak tried all the tricks, and none of them worked. It was very business-like, the outcome never seemed in doubt by either guy.
The women's final would only have been memorable if Paolini won, because she doesn't have a serve.
Her forehand actually has power and she spanks winners with it, but her lack of serve puts her on the backfoot for every service game.
Paolini had never done better than Round 2 at the slams prior to 2024.
