I love soccer, but I have to disagree with that one.
There's dozens of better plays, including Zidane's volley (with his weak foot) in Europe's Champions League final.
BucFan has already posted the one I would have chosen for hockey. I'll go further with that one. That's the one I'd choose as the highlight for all sports, to show how exciting it can be to watch sports in general.
The quality of this video isn't great. It was a lot more exhilarating to see this on television when it happened. Even so, this video still gives some hint. Notice the excitement in the announcers' voices.
It's difficult to pick just one for some sports, as many great moments as there have been.
For baseball you could just as easily pick Mazeroski's homer, Kirk Gibson's, Joe Carter's. Not to mention Larsen's perfect game, or the great fielding plays over the years (Willie Mays anyone?).
I picked these because:
Bobby Thomson's homer came with his team behind and on the verge of losing (so did Carter's but the Blue Jays were ahead in games, so they still would have had another shot in the next game if they had lost);
the Braves for the same reason;
and Fisk because of the famous image of him waving the ball fair (not really sure about this but it's said to be the first time ever that a player was shown watching his home run on the way out).
Football? Some of the other very close Super Bowl finishes besides the Rams/Titans game ('9ers/Bengals, last year's o.t., Butler's interception, etc.). The first Super Bowl win for the AFL (Joe Namath: "I guarantee it.")
Lots of great moments that could showcase the excitement of the sports involved.

needed to check your skiing video to make sure you had the greatest Olympic Downhill run ever...congrats!
remember it very well, it must have been on tape delay but my recollection is of not knowing the result
Yeah, I saw Klammer's downhill run during prime time in the evening, U.S. Eastern time. It would have been late, late night/early morning in Austria where, the Olympics took place, so it must have been on tape delay.
Like you, I didn't know the outcome. I was walking across the room to set something on a desk when Klammer started. I remember just stopping in the middle of the room and standing there watching in disbelief at this all-out, right-at-the-edge rush down the mountain that looked like a suicide run. It was amazing to see on television.
