Did Nishikori had a very off day or was Djokovic stepping up another notch?

Can someone explain to me how the ATP World Tour Finals work?

Nishikori and Berdych lost, but they are now playing against each other?

There are 2 pools of 4 players, they play 3 matches against each other in their pool, in a Round Robin format.
The best 2 from each group then go through to the Semi finals.
If 2 have equal number of matches won, it goes down to sets won to determine who is 1st, 2nd etc.
The Semis is the best of pool 1 vs 2nd best of pool 2 and vice versa.
The final is the winner of the 2 semis.
Hope that explains it.

I didn't know it's complicated like that with that many matches among the top 8.

Who were the winners in the past few years?

Ha ha... this title has been almost exclusively won by Djokovic and Federer.

And, the winner gets over $1 million in winning price? That's Grand Slam kind of money. It should be more than 500 points though.

They can get a maximum of 1500 points if they win all their Round Robin Matches and the tournament, 500 points is for winning the Final only.

2000 points for winning a Major or Grand Slam.
Winning the WTF's is intermediate between winning a Masters (1000 points) and a Major.

Djokovic is invincible right now but there is a chance he could lose a match.
