I'm sorry but spelling is CERTAINLY not a sport. And, quite honestly, the fact that ESPN shows it demonstrates that they aren't totally committed to being a sports network. They are committed to filling their programming schedule more than anything else.

Leave the spelling bee for CSPAN and leave the sports to ESPN/FOX Sports/NBC Sports etc.

This reminds me of the time Sports Illustrated did a feature article on competitive bird watching.

Surprisingly, ESPN hasn't begun inserting fillers like Cupcake Wars... or those sizzling Bobby Flay Cooking Throwdowns!
