Hi all. I've only been living in Spokane a few weeks -- got a job offer here. I'm almost 20 years old, originally from Detroit, Mich., and to be completely honest, I almost hate it here.

I didn't bring my car, which makes it even harder to get around, but I don't get why everything closes so early and why the buses stop running at 6 p.m.
I guess since I come from a bigger place, this is all foreign to me.

My point is, I'm bored, and there isn't much for me to do, especially considering my age (under 21) and I don't have a car. And it feels weird being multiracial here -- some people are nice, but others stare or are rude.

I want to know, what kinds of things could I do? How could I meet people closer to my age group who are open-minded? Where should I go? I'm bored out of my mind and might leave in a few weeks if things don't get better. I'm trying to be optimistic. Thanks.

I couldn't agree more!

Spokane doesn't sound like the place for you. Seattle is more diverse ethnically and definitely not as conservative as Spokane.

Come west!

Do you have a job or are you going to school? There must be a reason you moved here....What do you like to do for hobbies? Have you read the Inlander that lists all the clubs & activities to do around town?

Spokane is for families, not single people. Seattle is a little better for single people. If you're from Michigan maybe you should have considered Chicago or even New York. You're only young once!

Spokane is bad, very very bad. I'd suggest the west side of the state.

Unless you live near downtown, I can sympathize. If you live near downtown there is stuff going on. Obviously its not like Seattle or PDX, but there is still pleanty going on. My advise, read the INLANDER for whats happening and move as close to downtown as you can.

Lack of car in Spokane would be a GIANT problem unless you live near downtown then you can walk and bike to get around.
