There's a number you can call to find out road conditions. I THINK it's 511. Try it and see if you can get any info.

According to the news, I-90 is open across the state now. I'm not sure about I-29 though.

As for the amount of time, I honestly couldn't tell you. You'll probably have to drive quite slowly cause I doubt the roads are in that good of shape and the wind is still blowing pretty hard here in Mitchell.

Good luck to you and stay safe.

The Interstate in Rapid City is fine. Totally dry and traffic's moving quickly. This storm wasn't as bad as people thought it was going to be. It's just REALLY COLD here now. I've never seen Rapid City this cold before!

Annette, do you have a winter survival kit with you? I just checked and it's 8 below with a 36 windchill in my area right now. You'll be going right past here. The winds are still blowing, but are supposed to let up around noon tomorrow. (That's in my area only~about 75 miles east and 75 miles west of Mitchell)

Hubby's out working in the cold - the pay does not come in when they take a day off, so they try to work in just about any conditions!

Ugh, Elk Point! In 1998 I got snowed in, the beginning of November, in Elk Point. I was driving home from work, Sioux City to Vermillion, and a storm HIT HARD and FAST! I drove 2+ hours just to Elk Point, did a couple 360 turns on the icy Interstate, hadn't seen a car for an hour. So I pulled off at the gas station at the 2nd exit, and was stranded there with about 50 others, for 28 hours!

That's a good reason to always have a snow survival kit on hand this time of year. and YES Debey, I'd shovel your side walk!

Well when I woke up here in buffalo this morning it was 15 friggin below on the Thermometer. Not sure the windchill though up here, it was blowing pretty good. The roads here in town are just toast but the highway looks as if it never snowed at all, not even a spec of snow on them up here (highway 85) and I went from Redig today to bowman today. Only time you could tell it snowed was while you were in buffalo ROFL. As of right now the Thermometer says 10 below and the thermometer I got on my enclosed front porch says 20 degrees on it. YUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKk
