NA City Council announced that the section of NA Plaza that KMart building occupies will be redeveloped into a Marshall's, Ross Dress For Less, Petsmart, and Rack Room Shoes. This is a nice announcement for North Augusta.

Default Kmart #4865, North Augusta Plaza, 310 East Martintown Road, North Augusta, South Carolina 29841-4261

Has Kmart #4865 closed yet, or is it in the process of closing? Its pharmacy permit is still active with the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy. When a store is closing, the pharmacy must notify the Board of its impending closure within 30 days of closure, begin reducing inventory, and transfer prescriptions to another location or to another pharmacy.

Kmart #4865's pharmacy permit was first issued by the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy on Friday, 27 February 1981. The store has been open for 34 years.

I do not know how the terms of leases work. I could envision a 20-year lease with a number of five-year extensions. If Kmart #4865 is in a similar lease and not renewing its lease, it would be common for the developer to make plans to reuse the space for other tenants.

Sears Holding Company has been closing many Kmart and Sears stores.

Reactions are mixed in NA. Some like the fact that "in-town" shopping center is being revamped. Others wish there would have been an all-new construction project on the increasingly popular Exit 5 on I-20. A development that maybe could have had a Target or restaurants.

Interesting.. Similiar project in Columbia.. An old Kmart is being revamped in to several stores including a Marshalls.. I wonder if its the same developer? Glad to see the trend is catching on to reuse old big box anchors stores rather than building new ones....

Kmart #4865 competes directly with Walmart Supercenter #1270, 1201 Knox Avenue, North Augusta, South Carolina 29841-4056.

I have seen more cars parked at a Walmart Supercenter store and few cars parked at a Kmart store. Stores that have full parking lots usually do more business.
