My boyfriend and I have always loved visiting Myrtle Beach. We love the weather, the many things to do, and of course the beach. But after researching the area a little, the crime rates make me a little hesitant. Is this due to the amount of tourists? Say around bike week or senior week/spring break? Or is it bad all year round? I understand there are obviously places you should know to stay away from anywhere you live. But any locals have a list of some areas you wouldn't go? We have never really experienced any crimes, but that is also coming from a tourist point of view. We were looking at Canterbury Apartments in Carolina Forest. It's about 5 minutes away from the job he is pursuing and still a close drive to the beach. It seems like a nice upcoming area. Anything else we should know before deciding for sure? Thanks!

One advice....do not move there.

I lived in MB for 4 years during college and hated every minute of it. It's not called "Dirty Myrtle" by locals for no reason. The area grows old very fast and it's way too touristy.

And FYI, Canterbury Apartments are cheap and not a good place to live. You can do much better.

If you are wanting to move to SC, check out Greenville or Charleston. Greenville is more toward the North Carolina mountains and it's a great town. Charleston is on the coast and is a beautiful, historic city. We get tourists (the city has been named the #1 travel destination in the US for a few years now) but the tourists are way different than what you get in MB.
