I'm thinking about relocating to Bluffton, I'm asking, what's it's like living there? I'll be self-employed, buying or starting a small business so employment is not really a first consideration. But the area economy always is a consideration.

I just turned 60, but I'm active and inquisitive.
Is there a night life? Is it just a place to retire? Is there a town center to dine, or hear some good live music, cool coffee shops, thriving business? Is it safe? Or is it just a quiet little town?

Any help would be appreciated.

Bluffton is located off island from Hilton Head. There is a small historic district, but mainly Bluffton consists of all the big box stores, outlet malls and chain restaurants, with golf courses thrown in. Not sure about the night life there, you may have to go to Hilton Head for that. Bluffton is a mix of singles, families and retirees. A good number of the people who live there work on Hilton Head, but Bluffton offers more affordable housing costs. If you are looking for a town like setting, Bluffton does not fit the bill.

Bluffton does not have a walkable downtown. Things are pretty spread out so little to no walking from one place to another. Everything one could want is on Rte 278 which connects Hilton Head to I95. 278 can be a horror show of traffic as it is the only road on and off of Hilton Head.

You might prefer Beaufort to Bluffton if you're looking for a place with live music, downtown dining, etc.
Bluffton is lovely, but it's definitely more of a shopping and golfing place than "sit at a cafe' and listen to live music" kind of place.

Bluffton is full of Illegal Aliens too. It is a beautiful place, like a smaller Charleston. For some reason many illegal aliens are there near Lake City in Bluffton.

Why Bluffton? It's pretty dreadful ... unless you just really want to live in cookie-cutter houses in "active adult living" gated communities.

Beaufort or Savannah have FAR more history, beauty, culture and amenities IMO.

Have to agree with bolded statement as there really isn't anything in Bluffton and Hilton Head gets pretty deserted in winter.
