I am looking for a small, safe, friendly neighborhood to start a family. Me and my husband work in the medical field so we would like it to be near a city where we can work. We are looking for somewhere in South Carolina but are not familiar with the area as we are from pennsylvania. Please help!

Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston all have a big medical community because all three have a medical school.

Greenville has its own medical school?

MUSC would still exist as a hospital without the medical college. The college was an add on. The USC medical school is separated from the hospitals in town, they have a partnership with the hospitals but the hospitals would be there regardless.

You could look at Aiken or North Augusta on the SC side of the river from Augusta. Augusta is a medical hub of the southeast. Augusta has Georgia Regents University (formerly Medical College of Georgia) and the hospital, University Hospital, VA hospital, the military hospital, Trinity Hospital, and Doctors Hospital (one of the top burn units in the country). Aiken has its own hospital, Aiken Regional.

I think Anderson SC, on the north side of town along highway 81, would be a good option, if you want a smaller town. Nice hospital there, Anmed or something like that. Good schools, great YMCA, near nice lakes.

FLorence SC has good hospitals, McLoud and Carolinas hospitals, low cost of living, 1 hour from Mrytle Beach.

Yes, the University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Greenville. The inaugural class just completed their first year.
