And yet, the most popular sports league in the U.S. -- the NFL -- operates under the most socialist model.

Dude, tell me that's not true. I'm a liberal, but give righties MUCH more benefit of the doubt than that!

Incidentally, Jim Rome had a guest on (former player I think) where they gave a good prediction of how the US team should fare so..

A blog called Frank the Tank pointed out the REAL reason Soccer can't take off in America. As opposed to Basketball, Football and Baseball (although Korean/Japanese/Latin American fans will contest) our domestic leagues don't represent the best of the best internationally. If we are not the best than to hell with it.

I keep seeing this brought up on a number of threads; football (soccer) is regarded as a 'socialist' sport in america? Are you being serious? For a start...what has that got to do with ANYTHING? Secondly...how is it? Football is increasingly driven by money, players earn huge wages and god-like status, the whole sport is driven by wanting to win/get promoted...not exactly socialist. And thirdly, the vast majority of socialist contries aren't very good at football! Russia's got an ok team, but all the big European nations are modern, capitalist countries.

This whole thing seems completely ridiculous to me.

The whole concept of the draft in American sports, the salary caps, the lack of promotion/relegation is pretty socialist to me. And none of it exists in soccer.

True that!
I don't need Jim Rome's opinion to know I hate soccer.
HATE IT!!
