In my city there is a large Lebanese immigrant population - mostly Maronite Christians. I have noticed that most of them were cheering for Germany in the Euro. They cheer for Germany in the World Cup as well. Does anyone know why that is? I don't see the obvious link.
this peaked my interest...i suspect because the Germans unintentionally helped them get independence from France during WWII (since the french had their own things to worry about)
or maybe they just hate jews and think what the germans did back in the 40's was cool

Germany is a favorite for many when they have no horse in the race. Perhaps that's all there is to it. You could ask them too.
All of the ones I know are Christian and they as a community often side with Israel on certain political issues against the Muslim majority in their part of the world. Just sayin...
