work with clients to find them rental houses or do they mostly work with clients who want to buy a house/condo?

My searches online from standard sites (like rent.com, mynewplace.com, rental properties etc) haven't yielded good results. I am just wondering if I can give someone my criteria (example: stainless steel appliances, sq. ft requirements, location etc). He/she finds few rental properties and forwards the pics to me and I narrow down the options from that list and go and visit the properties when I get to Sattle (last week of May).

Google search for "rental real estate agents" brings only "for sale" properties.

Any thoughts?

My brother actually had a rental agent that he paid $200. I was stunned to hear of this, but yes. The Rental agent will work within your criteria.

It's not a dumb question at all, because in some other cities there are a bunch of real estate agents who deal with rentals. In Seattle, there are a few. The vast majority of landlords will not pay an agent a commission. The MLS lists a few rentals, but most of them are found on nwsource.com and craigslist.

When I first moved here, I noticed that Windmere real estate handled rentals. Not sure if they still do.

You could contact some of the big property management companies in the area. Some of the real estate companies have property management arms.

So search for "Property Management Seattle"

This may be a little late, but you can try the Seattle Rental Group (seattlerentalgroup.com), too. They're expensive ($400 or so for a rental tour) but they'll do all of the research for you and then drive you around to all of the properties to view them. They were awesome and helped me find a place on a tight schedule with some very specific requirements since I have a large german shepherd and some sizable furniture that I refuse to sell. They really took a lot of the stress out of relocating from North Carolina!

I know I'm six years late to the discussion, here, but does anyone know if there're any agents that help people find a room in a shared house or apartment? Anyone that helps you find roommates, in other words? Or, barring that, do any of the agents help you find temporary/month-to-month places?

Thanks very much, everyone.

Try Hotpads and Zillow too if your doing your own search. I've found Zillow has surpassed Craigslist as a site where tenants find rentals.

EDIT: just saw this was an old post and obviously the market tools have changed a bit.
