My wife and I are moving to Renton in a couple of weeks (ZIP 98058), and I was wondering if someone could tell me who offers high-speed Internet in the area. I just checked AT&T online, and they said they don't offer high-speed DSL in that ZIP code. I don't know about the availability of FIOS.

Not interested in a bundle package. We already know who we're going to use for phone and satellite.

Thanks for your help!

Qwest will offer DSL, Comcast will also be available, and so will Clear. Qwest and Verizon are in a few places in the Seattle area, but not in my part of Renton.

Thanks, Ira. Those were pretty much the choices I found looking around online this morning, apart from satellite Internet.

How does Clear work? Anyone know? Their website makes it sound like they rely on access to public networks, instead of offering DSL or cable.

Clear is WiMax. Don't ask me what that means:

Hmm, that's out of my wheelhouse. I'd be worried about spotty service, too.

I highly recommend Comcast. Their internet is super fast and reliable, DO NOT recommend Clear

Oh, one other thing. Can you get DSL without landline phone service in the Seattle area? Also known as dry loop or naked DSL. They offer it out here in metro D.C., but I know it's not available everywhere.

You can check availability, including speeds, with Qwest if you know your address:

Ditto to that. Verizon FIOS also is coming to the area.
