We have a 5th grader and recently moved to Seattle. Wondering if someone can help provide a comparison between Bellevue and Issaquah school districts? Particularly, the below school comparisons:

Pacific Cascade Middle School vs Tyee Middle School
Issaquah High School vs Newport High School

Appreciate your help and advice

Hi toast. Although Issaquah schools test score well, Bellevue's schools consistently score better (best in the state). As always, there are great teachers in all of these schools.

Here's some data for that might help in your evaluation;

Tyee: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/pdf/pr...ofile-tyee.pdf
Newport: https://bsd405.org/wp-content/pdf/pr...le-newport.pdf
Pacific Cascade: https://issuu.com/isdrefocus/docs/234_pcms_2018-2019
Issaquah: https://issuu.com/isdrefocus/docs/440_ihs_2018-2019

Bellevue schools are considered "better" than Issaquah schools which among other things translates to higher property/rental prices for places within the Bellevue SD boundaries.

Thank you both for your replies. So torn in deciding where to buy our home. Bellevue homes look really old for the money we are paying. But we also need a good school district. Any suggestions on where in Bellevue we can find some decent homes?

Hey toast! "Decent" is subjective because those older homes (think mid-century) can often be very well built and remodeled gorgeously. Mid-century homes often have larger lots as a bonus. As far as newer homes in Bellevue, try the Somerset area and then there would be pockets of newer development throughout Bellevue, like off of Richards Rd. The reason you are noticing what you are, Bellevue has been more densely populated longer than some of the other Eastside areas (Issaquah, Redmond), meaning that there wasn't as much room for new developments. Newcastle off of Coal Creek Parkway is another option where more new (and newish) homes are, though those areas can be Renton school system.

Hi Toast - it would help to know your budget and if you're open to townhouses. While the Bellevue SD is perceived as "better" than the Issaquah SD, I think it's splitting hairs a bit as both districts are very good. In general, you'll find newer houses that are a bit less expensive in the Issaquah SD.
