I’m a 25 year old single black male. I’m an HR professional. I’ve gotten a job offer in Downtown, Tacoma, and I’m thinking about living in Tacoma as well. I love to indulge in nightlife such as bars, clubs, live music. I love local restaurants, and art galleries. I also love areas with local businesses and coffee shops. I like to walk around in downtown areas. I like being around my age. Does Tacoma offer these types of things Downtown, or will I have to travel to Seattle to enjoy these activities every time? If it helps, I would be moving from Atlanta, GA.

Yes Tacoma has an urban feel in the central city. Still less expensive than Seattle but prices are rising. Check out the stadium district.

JMO, stay in TAC for 3-6 months. If you want to go to Seattle, take the Express bus-LINK, Amtrak Cascades, Sounder (weekdays only, limited). Hopefully your company will give you an Orca Card.

I would come to Tacoma, and being from ATL, you will understand how bad traffic can get if you had to commute to Seattle! Traffic in T Town is not bad.

The North End, Ruston, and the north part of downtown (Stadium district) are nice, it gets rougher the farther south you go. Hilltop is kind of a rough round the edges but up and coming neighborhood, the mall area on the west side of the 5 can be both nice and rough. The Southside (where I live) is rough but it has its good points.

From what you typed, I think you would enjoy Ruston, visit Wildfin (cajun fish tacos and calamari are my usual order)

This is the Pt Ruston area-

Proctor District (and check out the other neighborhoods listed here too)

There is ONE good BBQ on the west coast, do not believe the natives here when they say Dicks, Warthog, etc is good. It is NOT. They just do not know any better and although well-intentioned, horribly wrong.

This is it- and it is in the Southside-

The ribs are smoky and juicy, the brisket is tender with a beautiful rub. The sauce is flavorful and a little spicy (not super sweet or worse that vinegar crap). The pickles are his own recipe and really good. Your cousins would like the mac and cheese and the other sides are pretty good. On Saturdays he cuts up the ends of the briskets he smokes and sells them by the 1/4, 1/2, and full pound, calls'em burnt ends. I can eat like 4 pounds lol

The Bleu Note is in Lakewood, about 10 minutes SE of T Town. It's small, fun crowd (although I think it trends more 40s?), great music and they serve up some good wings and catfish (yes the family is Southern)-

There are other of clubs such as Jazzbones, Caballeros Club, and The Swiss.

The Tacoma Art Museum and Museum of Glass are big attractions-

There is also huge Pt Defiance Park-

If you go, stop in to Anthony's for lunch there and try our local salmon and some real good clam chowder.

Walking and biking are very do-able here but remember we have BIG steep hills so every day is leg day.

My church has started an 11:00 am service on Sundays that is geared to the younger folks, you are more than welcome to stop by and meet and talk to many of our young members.

Let me know if you have any questions, I am happy answer. I am actually planning my exit from here to the South but I should be around another year or so lol. Bring sweatshirts!

Nothing beats a short/zero commute. I also like Tacoma. No-brainer from my perspective.

Definitely Tacoma. Check out Stadium District and 6th Ave. They're the most vibrant areas with plenty to do. Downtown is getting a lot better in that regard as well.

Hilltop was beautiful today, lots of people out walking and enjoying the sun. I took Thompson/Yakima through the Lincoln District (rough area but interesting) to the Southside, looked so nice with all the people out and about.

When we do get sun it is a brilliant amazing event and it is rarely above 85. Little to no humidity.

How are the schools in that area?

Don't set yourself up for a long drive to work AND to party.

You'll just find yourself stuck in traffic all week and getting a DUI on the weekend.

Stay close to home.... plenty of good nightlife in Tacoma.
