Anyone who can "sail" in is welcome. Landlubbers go home, however!

After you get settled in, you can look around for organizations to get involved in, that suit your interests, as a way of meeting people. You might be able to join a board of a non-profit, or something like that. Congrats on a good interview, and let us know, please, if you get the job. Good luck!

I will keep you posted for sure! :-) Thanks for being so positive with me.

(Bus, bike or walk.)

Remember a couple of things if you're moving from CT to WA:

- Most people don't have or need air conditioning, and utility costs (if paying separately) are generally much cheaper than in the northeast.

- WA has no state income tax. This alone will put more money in your paycheck that you can spend on higher rent if need be. (You should ask the UW for an estimate of your actual take-home.)

- If you want to go car-less there are several car-sharing services available in the area that you can use for shopping trips, excursions into our wonderful surroundings, etc.
Thank you for these pointers! They were very helpful.

I'm fine with no A/C. I've lived in Connecticut in old houses for the past 18 years with no A/C and it gets way hotter here than it does in WA...plus it is humid as hell. (Like today.)

I liked the Ravenna and Green Lake area quite a bit. I might start looking there if an offer comes through.

Congrats on this possibility and good luck when you come on Thursday!

I will be on the main campus.

I have retirement savings, life insurance, and long term care insurance. I also have a good amount in savings, which I don't really want to touch. My car is older, but it is in great shape and I do not see needing a new one for quite some time, especially if I don't have to drive it that much. If it ends up that I don't use it that much, then I will sell it. I can fit all of my belongings in a 5x8 storage unit, so I really have nothing to move.

UDub would pay for my moving expenses and has amazing retirement. Washington state is actually in the top 10 of state retirement funding in the country while CT is in the bottom 5.

The only real issue, for me, is housing. And I think that is totally workable.

So, if the offer comes, I will accept and will be looking for new friends to play with! :-)

Those are good places to start. And you have a better budget to work with, than you thought, so that will help. Ravenna is one of my favorite areas of the city. I love that park!

Agreed on Ravenna. Along with Green Lake and Roosevelt it's a great area that's close to campus. It would be a pleasant walk actually.
