Hi everyone, my partner and I might be moving to Seattle this summer and will be there next weekend for a visit. Looking for suggestions on in town neighborhoods we should check out while we're there. We would like to be in a walkable neighborhood in the city with local restaurants/shops and access to public transportation. We currently have two cars and would like to go down to 1 or no car at all. We are looking to rent before we buy just to give us time to familiarize ourselves with the city. We have a dog so access to a park or green space is preferred. Our rental budget is between $3-4K/month, although we would prefer to stay in the low to mid $3s for a 2 bedroom apartment/condo/townhouse. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

East Capitol Hill near 15th. Green Lake, Wallingford, Upper Queen Anne.

Access to Off-Leash Areas (Bark Parks):

Magnuson Park (includes beach access): Look for apartments in Roosevelt, Ravenna, Bryant.

Golden Gardens (no beach access): Look at Ballard, Loyal Heights, Whittier Heights, West Woodland.

Woodland Park: Green Lake, Phinney Ridge, Fremont, Wallingford.

May want to throw Madrona onto your list in addition to the above. There are some parks but they're a little small. Depends on how much open space you want.

You'll have good options with your budget. I imagine the decision will come down to what you like best instead of being budget constrained.

I'm glad to hear your comment about our budget. I was a little concerned that it might not get us what we want given how expensive it is in Seattle compared to Atlanta.

Your budget should let you live where you want. I'd say, look at 1) Upper Capitol Hill (13th to 19th), 2) Ballard/Loyal Heights, 3) Wallingford, 4) Ravenna/Roosevelt/Bryant, 5) West Seattle (Junction and Admiral areas).

I imagine you may have to downgrade in certain areas vs what you have in Atlanta (square footage, luxury amenities, etc), but that price range will get you into all the above mentioned neighborhoods.

As an example, I have a friend who pays around $3k for a 2BR at Circa Green Lake. The location is amazing - right across the street from the park and within walking distance of plenty to eat, drink and groceries. I wouldn't consider it a luxury apartment but it's nice. Circa Green Lake

Having a dog will make it a bit trickier though. Be prepared to offer up a bigger deposit or extra rent, and you may still get turned down at some places.

Is there a commute in your future? Where will you be working?

I work from home/travel and my partner would be doing a mixture of WFH/Travel/and working out of his office in downtown Seattle in the Pike St. Market area. My question is would the recommended areas afford us a car free lifestyle? We recently came back from London and Paris and really enjoyed the fact that you could walk/bike or take the train anywhere. We are tired of the car dependent lifestyle of Atlanta, though the weather is nice here. We visited Seattle a few years back and really enjoyed it, we remember taking the light rail but can't remember how extensive it was. We are in our early to mid 30s and enjoy the outdoors/being active.
