There are so many forums on here but I cannot seem to find one that is what we are looking for.

We are a family of 3 (about to be 4) and my job is relocating to downtown Seattle. At the moment we are on a limited budget until my raise kicks in so we are trying to stay under $1800 a month in rent for a single family house. We can't do an apartment with a child with Autism out of respect for neighbors and we need space for him to get out his energy. We are thinking about Gig Harbor, Port Orchard, Bremerton, Silverdale areas. I know a ferry trip is in my future, but my office is within 4-5 blocks of the Seattle Dock so I am not too concerned with that.

My question is, are there a lot of options for ABA therapy out that way. I have been able to find one or two but I want to make sure that those are not the only options. In the event of long wait lists, are there any other options without my wife having to take a ferry trip as well?

Also, are there any other areas besides the ones that I mentioned that would be a better option for us?

There is an Autism center at Seattle Children's Hospital. You may want to give them a call and try to get on list now. They also could be good resource for information. There is a school Academy for Precision Learning for kids on the spectrum, its private expensive but they take insurance. There are a few groups on Facebook in the area for parents of kids with Autism, lots of good information. I have a few contacts I can share with you via private message who might be able to help you but most are in the city of Seattle. Send me a message if you'd like them.

I am a BCBA. I don't live in Seattle, but I work with a family who did. They told me their ABA options were great in Seattle. Further, Washington is one of the highest paying states for BCBA's. As such, it is going to attract talent. I am personally looking at relocating to Seattle and ABA wages are a big reason why. I get job listings for BCBA positions and there seem to be tons of companies all over the Seattle area.

Long story short... I think you should have plenty of good options for your child.

UPDATE:
We have been in the Seattle area for almost a year and we are STILL on waiting lists for all services!
We were fortunate enough to get a fairly quick appointment (6 months) with a pediatric developmental specialist at Mary Bridge Childrens hospital for referals. Here in Washington a pediatrician will not write a referral for therapy, that has to be done by the specialist which on average is a 6 month to 1 year wait for an appointment... this is regardless of your child’s history and or diagnosis. Once you get the referral from the specialist you will have about another year of wait lists before any therapies will start. I hope this helps and if anyone has any questions feel free to contact us and we will get back to you.
