Nebraska seems to know a lot about this issue. Oddly enough we've been struggling with fruit flies for the last several weeks. Seems odd, because I associate them to hotter weather and we didn't have any when it was 80+ degrees in the house (85+ outside) this summer.

Well, now I know how to make nifty little trap for them.

Well, here's a little update........

Woke up this morning and checked both locations of wine traps.

Bathroom: Only a couple dead fruit flies in the mason jar filled with Sweet Riesling and saran wrap covering the top (hole punched in top)

Bathroom: Two dead sewer gnats inside the Riesling mason jar

After doing a little more research, I discovered that sewer flies and fruit flies are two different species and may require different approaches. This is really weird to me because all of this has sprung up out of nowhere!

As I described above, the bathroom had these little orangish red colored flies floating in the wine jar. The laundry room had black in color sewer gnats floating in the jar.

Next step will be to mix up the vinegar concoction and order Invade Bio Drain Gel from Amazon today. The beauty of living in Seattle and being an Amazon Prime Member is getting same day delivery at no additional charge. Not sure if they do this on weekends, but I will definitely have it by Monday.

I was confused about this thread because your "location" indicates Kansas, but you were posting on the Seattle board about these insects. Time to change your "location"?

I have experienced these sewer gnats in my basement bathroom on a few occasions. Used one of those powdered enzyme products for septic systems(safe for both septic and sewer),added to the toilet and it seemed to help.
