one apartment I was looking at six Oaks, mostly caught my eye because they have a unit 202 available, i used to live in unit 202 when I lived in Florida so have some nostalgic value, although they're asking 1500/mo although that seems pretty average for rentals in the area it's still on the higher end of what I was looking to spend.

$15 an hour means you can not afford a $1500 a month apartment. Keep looking for a room to rent, a quick CL search shows plenty of options.

If you want to buy one day, it will take a lot financial discipline, I suggest googling Mr Money Mustache.

Congrats on the job and welcome to WA!

it's going to be a struggle at first for sure, although I do plan to find a second part time job that will only at most give me an extra few hundred bucks a month. Should help a little.

Six Oaks is brand new. You may be able to get down to 1300 there or at 'The 104' down the road. Cheaper but a bit older is the Beaumont in Woodinville if you get a good view. Bailey Farms in Mill Creek is new and should be <1500. Spencer 68 in adjacent Kenmore is brand new and should be <1500 at 1300. Kirkland also has a new podstyle building, but not sure if it is open yet - google it. A room or in-law in someone's house will be way cheaper if that is an option.

lots of mixed reviews, and with the price being lower than the average in the area that can be expected, in any case still seems overall has good reviews.

I'm not familiar with Autumn Cresk but from the links it seems a bit older (~ year 2000's).
Older will go cheaper as you point out.
There seem many many of that decade apartment buildings in area.
As you indicate, the devil is in details: is it clean, well kept up, quiet, etc, enough for your needs.
