Anybody here know much about jazz venues in Seattle and how lively a scene the city has? One of my good friends who is a guitarist, lived near Seattle for a couple years in the early 2000s. He mentioned about how Seattle had a pretty big jazz culture, with lots of live performances in city clubs and all. I'm personally not as much into the "smooth" style of jazz as the more traditional "groovy" style.

If his accounts are accurate, then I'm counting the days when I can go up and experience it!

We just had a thread on this topic a few months ago. Did you try the search function?

Seattle only has one small jazz club, not much of a jazz culture.

I know only of Tula's and Jazz Alley. Both are in the downtown area.

Lucid in the U District mostly has live jazz.
The Royal Room in Columbia City sometimes has jazz.
Egan's in Ballard mostly has live jazz.
Le Bistro in Bryn Mawr(South Seattle) has live jazz a few nights per week.
In addition to Tula's and Jazz Alley.

No, it does have more than just one small jazz club. The jazz scene is small but fairly decent for a place that isn't New York or New Orleans. My friend was a jazz guitarist and he got some gigs and found some guys to play with regularly when he was in Seattle.

The Triple Door usually has jazz shows during the week too.

The Jazz scene is pretty substandard, but it's ok. The main issue with the Seattle's Jazz scene is the lack of big acts. However, I hear Seattle has a very good blues scene. Don't know for myself, but that's what I've heard.
