I read an article today on King 5 tv's website about Seattle drivers. There was a study done that ranked drivers from 200 different cities around the united states. 200 being the worst drivers and 1 being the best drivers. Seattle was ranked 160 out of 200 meaning that Seattle has some of the worst drivers in the country.

So what do you guys think? Would you say that Seattle is a city full of bad drivers compared to other cities or would you say that Seattle has good drivers compared to other cities? Any thoughts or opinions on this?

I saw that. Come on, let's hear it, "We're number one! We're number one!"

I do think there is something about our area that makes people daydream while driving. Sure, we're polite, we let the other guy go first, but when we eventually do go, you'll notice a lot of people seem - maybe they're just distracted by the scenery.

People seem perfectly content to do the speed limit and mosey along. Having come from NJ where doing 80mph is the rule rather than the exception it's been...fun. I've learned to really just take a deep breath and slow down. But seriously, what is with the left lane hogs around here? I thought the left lane was to pass, not to chill and ride door handle to door handle with the guy in the right lane? :-)

I saw that. Honestly, even though those drivers ("obliviots") can be annoying-- overall, its actually not that bad, I can't complain about it for most part. Especially when you start to compare to other cities's drivers.

I just had to laugh at your comment about people pacing you in the left lane. My dh complained about that before the rest of us joined him up here (we're from Arizona). I thought he was just imagining it! I have noticed it a few times, but it doesn't bother me. I find it amusing, actually. It's as if people want to pass you when you're going the speed limit, get to the point at which they're going the same speed as you are, and then decide they'd better go the speed limit again, and then forget they were going to pass you. I love going the speed limit and not having the driver behind me furious and riding my bumper for obeying the law in the slow lane! It's what driving in Arizona was like 20 years ago.

I've driven in NY, L.A., SF, and a bunch of other cities...and Seattle is the worst. I was on the 520 today and all but one driver I saw was texting. All speeding, all driving erratically. On the 5, people are alternately speeding and doing 50MPH in the fast lane. It's just crazy driving, yet no one uses their horn.

This morning, I was driving to Eastlake and my lane was ending, so I tried to merge left. The blinker didn't seem to help, so I rolled down my window to ask someone to let me in, and a woman who could have easily let me in started shaking her head vigorously and yelling, "NO! NO! NO!" She kept revving her engine and almost hit the person in front of her in an effort to make sure I did not merge. She then tore off down the median to avoid the long line of traffic we were in. I was totally shaken by her actions. It's just something I need to get used to, I guess.
