The water is very clean, but just know that the temperature rarely gets hot enough to be enjoyable unless you're used to very cold water.

Thanks for all the input :-) My kids will be happy to hear that there will be plenty of water-related fun in the summer. They seem to be impervious to the cold, so I imagine they will probably acclimate to chillier water than my husband (who loves to swim and is a triathlete). Thanks again!

Rattlesnake Lake is the best! Very shallow for a ways out so it is warm and very swimable. It is also very crowded when the weather gets warm.

People always told me to shower after you swim in the lakes because the geese and duck droppings because the parasites cause "swimmers itch". We swim in Lake Washington so not sure if it depends on the lake but that is what I was told and I always have my son shower afterwards. Better safe than sorry or itchy!

Thanks for the heads-up!

It's always a good idea to shower after swimming, whether it's a pool, ocean or lakes. There's always going to be bacteria in the water (or chemicals in the case of a pool).

That said, I spend many summers going to Enatai Beach and Chism Beach in Bellevue when I was a kid (in addition to the neighborhood pool).

Hah - me and some others used to jump into Puget Sound in December for a few seconds.

Yep, it is very cold then.

It is even cold during the summer.

Remenber folks, Puget Sound is why Seattle has a mild climate.

Ick you couldn't pay me to swim in the sound. Just seems so very polluted. I go in the waters at the coast though and swim in Lake Washington.

When you have the time make the drive to Soap Lake. It is pretty interesting.
