Hi,

I currently live in CO and have wanted to move to Seattle for awhile. What stops me is finding a job. I cannot afford to move without a job and the employers with whom I've spoken, won't consider me while I am in Denver. For those of you who found a job prior to moving, any tips on how to do so?

Thanks

Pam

Work hard, save tons of $$$$, then move, then job.

Did that when we moved from CA to CO.

I have been working in telecom since '97 and have experience from technician to manager. I have a bachelors with an emphasis on psych/soc; and I used most days in a call center. My skills are working in call centers, management, admin, customer service, and tech (working in a noc fixing t1's - oc circuits)

This is not a tip. You have to have marketable skill that companines can't find locally inorder for them to pay for relocation. I know many companies in King County area are welling to pay for your relocation.

What David said. I tried to move from Texas to Seattle for about four years, but other than phone interviews, I never went further in the hiring process. I used that time to keep saving and moved here in April. Once I was here, I got a ton more response. It took me just under a month and a half after moving to get my current full-time job as a contractor at Google.

Only $6K.

In hindsight, it probably should have been a lot more.

What the responding posters said is what I'm doing now. I just moved here almost three weeks ago, and I'm on the job hunt. It's frustrating, and I'm hoping the move was worth it. I only had one interview so far, but wasn't offered the position. But I already tried getting jobs from sitting behind a computer and submitting strong electronic applications half way across the country. Never got responses. So I figured if I wanna live somewhere that badly, I might as well take the risk and just move and try to find work.

It also depends on how much you've got going for you at your current location. In my case, I'm recently out of college with no kids and I just returned from teaching English overseas. I didn't have a job or worthy connections waiting for me at home. So I didn't really have much to lose by moving to Seattle.

Agreed. I'm not necessarily asking for them to pay re-lo, though that would be fabulous. What companies do you know of who would be willing to pay for relo?
