I have two Newfoundland dogs and will be moving out to the Seattle area, for 2-6 months I will be living in rental housing until I sell my current house. How hard will it be to find a rental? Should I be afraid?

We did not have any trouble finding dog friendly apartments when we moved here recently.

But one thing that took us by surprise was the pet deposits. We had to pay $1200 in pet deposits and fees on top of the regular deposit for our apartment. $1000+ seems pretty typical for 2 dogs. We looked at a couple that charged pet rent ($20 per pet) in addition to the deposit.

Our dogs are lucky we like them so much.

@Burgerbun, they are so much a part of our life.

Anyone out there have experience renting a house with large dogs?

Also, anyone had luck telling landlords your dogs have CGC?

We just rented out in the 'burbs (Eastside) with our Newf and had surpassingly few problems. I was just reading an article in Seattle magazine that there are significantly more dogs in Seattle than children - it's a dog friendly city!

We did notice that lots of ads suggested pets were negotiable - some had size requirements (we did think that trying to convince anyone our beast was a "small" dog was pushing it!) and some had breed restrictions ("dangerous" breeds). But lots just require a sizable deposit. In our case, $500.

Good luck - we were just saying our Newf is going to adore Seattle. The heat and dryness back home really get to her.

We're in the same boat with looking for a place to rent out there. We have 4 dogs, 2 small breed, and 2 medium. Most of the property management companies we've talked to so far have said everything sounded good until we said pets. They have a maximum of 2 pets, or can maaaaybe negotiate for 3, but not 4. Does anyone know if landlords on craigslist are any "easier" to get them to allow you to have 4 dogs? Or is it better to be there in person so you can drive around potential neighborhoods scouring for a rental? Advice would be greatly appreciated. I know there were also a few apartment communities that I saw on cl that allowed 2 pets with no weight restrictions...don't know anything else unfortunately about the apartment community.

4 dogs are diffcult for most companies. craigslist is probably your best bet because someone people welling to rend out condo. You don't have to deal with property management companies.
