Synonymous with ranch style? As I look at listings, I keep reading this term.

They're the same thing. I think what term you use depends on the part of the US you're in.

I'd never heard the term until I started looking. I'm in CA, ranch land.

So is Craigslist where all of the rental action is? Or should we also contact a rental agent? We are looking to rent a house in the Seattle area. I started this thread on rural areas a couple weeks ago.

Recommendations for rural areas near Seattle

btw, I've researched all of the areas you recommended, Ira, thanks!

The very best deals for a rental home are usually found by walking past a house and seeing the for rent sign. Rental agents mostly just deal with mls listed rentals, so less than what's available on craigslist. nwsource.com and hotpads are a couple of other options.

I prefer the term "bungalow", it just sounds dirty.

From where I come from this definition is about right ... ;-)

Urban Dictionary: rambler
Somebody who wanders the countryside infuriating landowners as they trample over crops, plants and flowerbeds with their "right to roam"

"Bungalow" is what we normally use for single story dwelling places, normally inhabited by retired people. But I don't remember it being a dirty word. Whereas, "Cottaging" is a totally different matter!

But a bungalow's not the same thing as a ranch or a rambler. A bungalow is usually old, fairly small, and 1 and 1/2 stories. Seattle is full of bungalows. But in recent years, real estate salespeople have been referring to them as " Craftsmen".

I had a rambler once. It was made by Nash.
