Hi Everyone,

I am moving to Seattle for a new job and am worried about finding affordable housing (less than $450 per month to rent a room) in a quiet location. I have a noise sensitivity condition and need to stay away from aircraft noise, barking dogs, noisy neighbors, etc. I'd also like to reduce my commute to no more than 30 minutes. Initially, my work location will be on 66th Avenue South in Kent (near a Hampton Inn, apparently). In January, the work location moves to Boeing Field.

If necessary, I'd be willing to move twice, since I know these two locations are not exactly next door to each other. If you are familiar with the Seattle area and surrounding communities, please share with me any viable suggestions about where to live.

I lead a low-key lifestyle and have no particular need to be in the "exciting" areas of the city. Frankly, my greatest concerns, other than those previously mentioned, are to be near well-equipped 24-hour Fitness locations and inexpensive grocery stores like the Grocery Outlet, Winco, etc.

Thanks,

Adam

It sounds like your ideal location won't be in Seattle proper. There are officially more dogs than kids in Seattle and we are near a major international airport. You will also need to check out the neighborhood as noisy neighbors are everywhere and that's just a crap shoot. You'll probably need to look to the east, but you won't have a commute less than 30 minutes, especially if your commute takes you to an airport. Someone here might have an ideal location for you, but I can't think of one single place that meets all of your requirements.

You're going to work DoD aren't ya.

Since you're sensetive to noise, I'd recommend NOT living in Tukwila as the airplanes frequently fly overhead, and also don't live near Kent station, as the train noise will be going off at times like 3 in the morning. Given your situation, I'd recommend looking around parts of Renton, West-Seattle, and perhaps even Mercer Island. These locations are all travel-friendly to the Developmental Center area (Boeing Field). I know Renton has a 24-hour fitness, and has Fred Meyer, Safeway, Sam's Club, and Wal-Mart all in that same area for shopping. Good luck!
