I'm sure this will get moved to the relatively unnoticed sports section, but I can't believe the Mariners have now lost 17 games in a row. (The Major League record post-1900 is just 23, so the M's are only six games out from the record.)

Even harder to believe is that the M's were still in contention just one month ago.

In an effort to keep this in the Seattle thread, my question is: Do you continue to support this team? How does this effect Seattle's self-esteem, if at all?

Even though the M's have lost 17 games in a row, they're still better than last year's team, and will finish with a better record. I'm still a fan, and will be no matter how lousy they are. Give them a couple of years. Up until a month ago, they were winning games they shouldn't have, they weren't as good as their record indicated. Now, they look horrible, like they're never going to win another game. But they're not as bad as they look, and they can't lose every game from now on, can they?

I like your positive outlook Ira, and they may finish better than last year, but I don't think they are better right now than last years team. Wholesale changes will be needed to meet your prediction for 2013.

Like batters who can actually drive in runs?
They lost 101 games last year, they were absolutely horrible. Can they lose 101 this year? Looks like they're trying to, but I'm an optimist. They'll only lose 97.

i have actually been to more games this year than last (4). Last year we went to more Rainiers games, this year the Mariners are last years Rainiers
along with an aging Ichiro and a few other veterans on the downside of their careers. Without any hitting the pitching sustained the first half of the season,
that can't last with young pitchers so the result is what you see now. I too expect the next year to be better and the one after that better yet, but I still enjoy watching the young kids. Would you sign Ichiro to another contract?
I'm guessing he'll go back to his old team in Japan for a year then retire.

When your cleanup hitter can't hit home runs, and you've only got one guy who bats for average, your team is going to have issues. Can't see myself supporting a team that makes no real attempts to build a proper team.

Rick the Peanut Guy has died. Just when it can't get worse for the Mariners.

They finally won! They beat the Yankees to boot! Like Ira500 basically said, they will be good in a few years and I trully believe that. If they can keep that pitching staff intact(there is some real talent there) and get a few guys that can hit(without destroying their farm system) they will be ok. The AL west isn't that good of a division right now.

M's cant close...that is the main problem. I haven't bought a ticket in 2 years to see them at Safeco, even though I still have the key-tag on my chain. I had a friend offer me free tix last month and turned them down.
