It appears like the State of Washington has fair # of IT openings as of current, but I'm aware that Washington is certainly no exception to the budget crisis that is currently hitting the state governments across the country. If you look in the private sector, Amazon and Microsoft seem to be in Seattle area. I'm also interested in non-profit and educational sectors that may hire IT professionals. Anyone care of offer names of some companies that are decent to work at?

I question the IT skills of a person that cannot find out what Tech companies are in a given area.

Here is our latest unemployment: Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowed
This is not the promised land. If you have very strong skills, you might find a position but the competition is strong and our unemployment is over 9%.

Here are a couple of local IT news sites:

TechFlash: Seattle's Technology News Source
GeekWire - Dispatches from the Digital Frontier

Sorry. I have never been to Seattle or the State of Washington as I live on the Eastern Coast on the other side of the continent.

Your point is very well taken. There is no such thing as a promised land, Seattle metropolitan area being no exception. Job market competition is strong no matter wherever you go. You can't get away from that.

We always seem to have a few openings at the Port of Seattle but we normally require a lot of experience and don't pay as well as private companies. We also have T-mobile, Costco, Boeing and Paccar here.

I'm not trying to be harsh but your post says Microsoft and Amazon seem to be in the area.

I saw in another post that you are looking for a company to help pay for your move and possibly buy your house. Your skills would need to be extraordinary to warrant that in this competitive market.

If you re-ready my post, that is just my wish. Not really expecting to find such a company. More than technical skills, you need a key connection in the target company (it's who you know more than what you know) to receive any treatment that comes close to that. I guess most people are just stuck where they are living, but that shouldn't be that bad. Eh?

No one is stuck where they are living, but your expectations seem very high for someone that is not entirely sure that Microsoft or Amazon reside in the Seattle area. Since you said IT, that is surprising. If you don't know anything about the area, why Seattle? Because it's a hot summer?

It's better that someone says this on an anonymous board than for you to contact a recruiter and say "Microsoft and Amazon seem to be in Seattle..."

Alright if you say keep saying that is my expectation. If I dislike hot summer in Maryland, I would consider Anchorage more than Seattle, and IT skill has zero to do with the location of the IT companies unless if you are in management where you don't really do technical work. However, your point is very well made and appreciated! I hope that is enough.

Can you expound a bit on what exactly your skills are within "IT"? How many years of experience do you have? Degrees/Certs?

That may help us point you toward viable companies.

Seriously, it's not that difficult to google "companies based in Seattle", go to the Wikipedia page, and spend 10 minutes going through the (very) extensive list.

An easier question would be what companies AREN'T in Seattle, since the big ones that aren't based here still typically have large presences here (Cisco, Google, etc.).
