I asked about this a while back. Pretty much, the answer is no, sadly. I'll see if I can find my old thread about it.

Here's the thread I started about this:

There once was:
Dinnertime in Garlic Gulch — Rainier Valley Historical Society
"Rainier Valley’s Italian heritage goes back a hundred years or more. Back then, the Valley was largely forests and farms, with the streetcar running down the middle. Many of the area’s farmers were immigrants, and many of those immigrants were from Italy. In fact, the neighborhood around Atlantic Street was so heavily dominated by Italians that it was called “Garlic Gulch.” These Italian immigrants brought a rich culinary tradition to the Rainier Valley that can still be enjoyed today."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now-a days the Italian/Americans live next to Koren/Americans live next to African/Americans live next to the Mexican/Americans etc etc

No, this is not NYC. There are, however, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vetnamiese, Philappean, Muslum, Mexican, Jewish, Swedish, Norweigan, British, and Anglo Saxon neighborhoods. I guess the Italians are all just scattered around the city like most of us Anglo Saxans and British.

New York type (Italian or not) is a definite contrast to Seattle people, and probably the hardest type to get used to Seattle. Other than Borracchini's Bakery and Oberto's the Italians in Rainier have all been replaced long ago.
The only real ethnic neighborhoods are Asians in the International District and
scandinavians in Ballard. Being Portuguese I have yet to find decent linguica
here.

Default That's disappointing for this NYer headed west..

I don't care so much about Italian neighborhoods, since I have not really lived in one since I was in high school a LONG time ago, but I do want to be able to shop for good Italian food products, like

cold cuts
bread, pastries and cookies
pizza, of course... real NY style with thin crust, fresh cheese and LOTS of oil
proper cooking ingredients

also good bagels!

And I'm not decided on Seattle. Looking at Tacoma area and north of Seattle. I want easy access to the water, since I'm a sailor. I'm retired so I expect to spend lots of time on the water.

Do the area supermarkets stock good Italian foods?

Well, fortunately, a lot of the high end grocery stores do a good enough job at stocking quality ingredients for Italian cooking. High quality canned and jar tomatoes, olive oils, olive bars, fresh pastas, fresh basil, fancy cheeses, salami and other cured meats, etc.

Your pretty much out of luck for bagels. There's nothing even approaching Ess-a bagel here

Thanks. I know good bagels are tough to find in most places outside NYC... that will be a big loss for me!
