I have been posting for a couple month's now about my boyfriend and I moving to Seattle. We were going through a few blips in the system via parents and then having the apartment rented out from under us that we had chosen in Seattle. Well, we finally got approved for the English Gardens apartments in Burien. I have a friend in Seattle that lived there at one time and she loved it. Needless to say, I am very excited. I want to thank everyone that has taken the time to help us out and everyone that has written me privately.

Living in Seattle has been a dream of mine since I was a child. I am 26 now and I have never given up on any passion of mine. As people of Seattle, a lot of you probably can't understand my fascination. As a person NOT of Seattle, I probably can't understand those of you that don't like the place. I love rain. I love overcast. I enjoy night better then day. I'm getting more fond of cooler weather, especially since I have a below-knee prosthetic, which gets pretty hot sometimes. I have a major passion for coffee and art. I'm a photographer. I adore nature. I love to read.

Anyways, my boyfriend and I are moving June 9th. It's going to take us 4 days to get up there. Please feel free to share ANY tips, suggestions, recommendations on food/coffee/things to do/stores/metaphysical shops/ways to maybe make friends...haha. I'd truly appreciate it.

Well, I can't offer any recommendations because I'm not there yet, but a big congratulations to you! I am just waiting for my house in San Diego to sell before I head up to the beautiful PNW myself!

You do realize Seattle is like... 70% transplants, 30% natives? Many people move here for variety of reasons. Many do say they love rain/overcast... then we do have some more of them that go careening out because they can't the handle rain/overcast.

Anyhow... I do actually know where your apartment is. I would suggest that you head over to Seahurst Park and enjoy the beach (if you're in shape, take a bike ride, it'll be a good challenge). The popular restaurants are: Elliot Bay Brewhouse/Pub, Angelo's. I liked Bison Creek Pizza. All of which are a couple blocks north. Since you're only a couple blocks from the Burien transit center (which is across from Bartell's/Saars)... take a bus ride into Seattle DT.

Welcome!

Glad you could work it all out. Too bad you missed yesterday, it was
perfect weather at 79, just the upper limit of heat for my taste.

When you get here, explore. This area is full of great little places that many people never find. Sort of like hidden gems.

To see what I mean, stop at the Luna Park Cafe in West Seattle,
it's on Avalon right at the end of the bridge. A lot of young people hang out there at times, it's funky with great food. Avoid the Elvis Waffle, though unless you have a strong constitution. Peanut butter, banana and bacon on it. While in that area, take your camera to Jack Block Park on Harbor Ave.

I really appreciate all the kindness from you guys. After wanting to live in Seattle this long, I honestly think I can handle the rain/overcast. I'm a bit of an odd individual.

I'm a major explorer too and a photographer, so I am sure I won't allow myself to miss out on anything interesting over time. Thank you for the input and suggestions. I can't wait to scope out everything.

And to those of you wanting to move to Seattle, good luck! You can do it. I promise. I had a major set back in 2006 when I had a horrible wreck and in the end lost my leg below the knee. I now wander about on a great prosthetic and refused to give up that dream. Although we knew we would eventually be in Seattle, the last 5 months we just decided we were going to go ahead and go, and here we are. Never give up on passions.
