So I don't currently have health ins and I just moved here. I just got a new job where I could get health insurance through them. However I start school in April, and could get it cheaper through the school. But I won't be covered until I start classes. If I purchase it through the job, I have to stick with it for the rest of the year, so I'll miss out on the cheaper school insurance for now. Is there any good affordable health insurance I can get just from now until April, and if so, what? I need to go to the doctor.

My daughter just went through this and settled on Group Health, it's about $300/month with high deductibles but still the best she could find for the $.

Have you looked closely at the plan summaries? Most "academic" plans are pretty basic and many times not more than a basic emergency plan.

If that's all you need, then great. However, keep in mind that group plans are USUALLY more comprehensive and you can deduct your premiums on group plans, where you cannot on individual plans.

So unless your group plan sucks and is over priced, you may want to stick with that.
