Hello,

Does anyone know if there are any cheap public transit options to Vancouver and maybe Portland (bus, rail..?) And about what those options would cost?

Thanks!

Here are the ones I know of and maybe others can add more:

Greyhound, 4-trips daily to Portland: $33.44 web-fare, $38 standard fare

Amtrak, 5-trips daily to Portland: $37 to $49 depending on the trip

Shuttle Express, 3-trips daily to Portland: $69

I don't believe any of those stop at Vancouver. I think you'd have to take local transit back to Vancouver.

Thanks, are those roundtrip fares or one-way fares?

Oh, sorry, one-way. I think Greyhound is about $60 round-trip for a web-fare.

I also recall Shuttle Express giving a discount to a second person for about $30 one-way.

I'm surprised that there are no very inexpensive travel options between Portland, Seattle and Vancouver BC. On the east coast, between cities of equal distance, we have tons of competition between BoltBus, MegaBus, and innumerable Chinatown companies. I am constantly traveling between Baltimore and NYC (a little further than Portland-SEA) and I never have to pay more than $20 each way. I'm heading there this afternoon and returning tomorrow on a $34 round-trip ticket, on a comfy, clean BoltBus with Wi-fi.

I suppose it's only a matter of time before this hits the NW. Then again, Amtrak is waaayy cheaper there than here.

If you have a choice between the bus and the train, take the train! It is infinitely more relaxing.

Yeah, the train is great! We took it North to Bellingham from downtown Seattle and it was really comfortable as well as scenic.

If you want an affordable way to get to Vancouver, BC from Seattle, you can take the 510 Everett express to the Everett Station, then take the Skagit Transit 90x to Mount Vernon Station, then take the 80x to Bellingham Station. From there, take an evening Amtrak train up to Vancouver. Total cost for one adult will equal out to be around $20 one way. Quite a hassle and requires a lot of planning, but it's an option none the less.

Default Shuttle Express to Vancouver

Actually, Shuttle Express operates this service door to door and does stop at addresses in Vancouver. Depending on how far away from I5 it will either be no charge or cost only a $15.00 surcharge.
