Any suggestions on places to go and visit my first week in Seattle? I will be living there at least 2-3 years but for grad school. Any great stores for decorating an apartment? Fun places to visit before I have to buckle down for school? Best shopping area? If this helps, I am a female in my mid 20s.

I'll throw some random stuff out there:

Woodland Park Zoo
Seattle Piers and take a ferry to Bainbridge for lunch and come back on a return ferry. It's a gorgeous Island.
Pizza Pagliacci - I love that place.
Space Needle. It's about as touristy as it gets, but it's an icon.
The Ballard Locks, Ballard in general. Cool area.

...there's lots of fun stuff to do.

We just visited Seattle for two weeks and it's a wonderful city. First thing we did was walk across the airport parking lot and buy an ORCA card from the vending machine by the light rail. Then we used the card to ride the light rail into downtown Seattle, used the card to catch a bus to our B & B, used the card to ride the ferry to Bremerton, used the card to ride Amtrak to Everett, it's a great way to get around the city.

We climbed the watertower in Volunteer Park, that was fun. Also the Conservatory there is free. Dicks Drive Inn has some great burgers and the Chowder place in Pikes Place market has some really really good chowder! We liked the seafood bisque the best. Especially in a bread bowl. Pikes Place market is a great place to get vegetables as well as to gawk and people watch. Too bad you just missed the Solstice Parade in Fremont. That was *different*!!!

If you can get to Mt. Rainier before the weather turns (usually mid-October) than make the trip.

Get a library card! And visit the public library downtown. I found it absolutely stunning.

Go to a beach, or at least Green Lake.
