Researchers Achieve Quantum Teleportation Over 10 Miles of Empty Space | Popular Science

Quote:
Although it's called teleportation, no matter is really moved. Rather, the quantum state of one object is transferred to another object.
Might this be a step to real teleportation?

I think quantum entanglement is one of the coolest phenomenons in all of physics. Mainly because nobody understands how or why it happens - even the most accomplished nuclear physicists are completely clueless. It's about the closest thing to real magic that there is. Add to that the potential ramifications to the computing and communications industries once the power of entanglement is harnessed. Simply fascinating stuff.

I agree, the implications are enormous, even down to philosophy and religion. There's a great explanation of the "entanglement" phenomenon (aka "non-locality"), here complete with lotsa illustrations (and me always like pictures!) : Quantum Entanglement
