My new central a/c makes this banging noise when it comes on and again when it goes off. my neighbor says it's just the expansion of the ducks. duh. never heard it before and never heard it when i had the old one. anyone know what it is and if i am gonna explode???

My a/c did the same thing and later began leaking through the vent and a/c access panel. I am not sure what to tell you I would have that checked out though. Later on my a/c went completely out. The apartment maintenance guy came and charged my a/c and drained the pipes and did a couple more things. Not to say that is what is wrong with yours. The pipes could possibly be freezing up? Good luck with everything.
