Within the scientific/technological real, is there any alternative to electricity for our modern lives?

Anything we do based on knowledge and technology is done with electricity. I was just wondering what the next step in human technological revolution will be.

Now if you meant human technological evolution I'd say mankind will continue to get dumber and dumber relying on computers rather than their own minds.
