Hello Savannah! My husband and I live in Charlotte, but it's his birthday this weekend and we are coming down to Savannah for a visit. We're staying on Bay Street and are really looking forward to it!

On Sunday evening, he wants to go to a "dive" to eat. Anyone have any recommendations? In the historic district would be preferred, but we'll drive if there's someplace really awesome. We love BBQ (pork), beer, burgers, etc -- we just love food in general and have found that sometimes the worst-looking dives have the best food!

Also, are there any events going on near the river this weekend? I've looked around online for things to do, but thought you guys might have some additional recommendations.

Thanks so much!

tybee is having mardi gras (parade, music, drinks, etc.) but that's 10 minutes away from the river. Five Guys and Fries isn't a dive but they have the most awesome burgers in the whole wide world!

Thanks, guys! We will be coming up Sat morning, so won't be able to do any Friday night events. I agree that Five Guys is awesome, but it's a chain and we have them here too.

Any other recommendations for "dives" where we could go on Sun night?

B Matthews and Smokey Bones are very good. Sorry that the weather is not looking so good for this weekend. IMO, B&D Burgers on Broughton is the best burger. If you want some good Italian, I suggest Leoci's on Abercorn.

The Crystal Beer Parlor is a classic old Savannah dive. It's also a great place to eat on a Sunday night. Crystal Beer Parlor

Wall's BBQ might be open on Saturday, but not Sunday. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/282/1229...urant-Savannah

Try Wiley's BBQ it's about 4 miles from downtown toward Tybee, but what would a Savannah trip be without a few hours at the beach....The fried pickles are out of this world..
