***** I just heard on SNN channel 6 local news that Sarasota County is in the running to be one of the first areas in the country to test market Gooogle\'s new ultra fast internet service. Google\'s new ultra high speed internet service will be over 100 times faster than current high speed internet services and it will operate at a speed of 1 Gigabit per second. Here is a link to a blog about Google\'s new high speed internet service: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2010/...erimental.html *******

Considering the alarm being raised regarding Google's data retention policy and their cooperation with the NSA, I would not recommend using ANY Google products.

In wake of hack, Google negotiating cooperation with the NSA

So if Google is announcing that policy, being one of the more open-booked corporations out there, do you really think that Comcast, Time Warner, AT&T and the rest aren't doing the same and keeping it under wraps?

When it comes to such things, if you're not looking at kiddie porn or jihadist websites...I'm pretty sure you're not gonna raise any flags!

Google did not "announce" the negotiations. It was leaked by anonymous sources. If you wish to keep handing your privacy and civil liberties away to the government, go ahead. I won't. What Google is doing is making information available on a wholesale basis to a government agency notorious for violating our privacy rights under the Bush administration (you remember those phone call monitoring scandals). What used to be available only by subpoena will now be theirs for the taking. If you want to keep drinking Big Brother's Kool Aid, go right ahead. For others: USATODAY.com - NSA has massive database of Americans' phone calls

**** Just to clarify things a bit the POSSIBLE deal between Google and the NSA is NOT FINAL and negotiations are going along very slowly -- as Google is reluctant to share its sensitive infrastructure with the NFA. (But if the deal is ever to materialize the NFA requires that Google open up access to its very secretive infrastructure -- which to this point in time they have never been willing to do.) Here is what the article states in regards to a possible deal betwee Google and NFA ------> \"Meanwhile, as the report notes, private companies have often been loath to share information about their proprietary systems with the government for a variety of reasons.
That may explain why the negotiations have been going slowly, as the NSA would clearly need access to and understanding of Google\'s infrastructure in order to fully evaluate the attacks and future risks. And thats precisely the sort of proprietary information that Google is presumably reluctant to provide anyone with — even a highly secretive organization like the NSA.\" --- I agree with the previous poster in that if you are not involved in criminal activity it should not really be a big concern. As all the other internet service providers probably make our informatin available to outsiders in one way or another and do so covertlty. And if there is any criminal investigation -- by LAW ALL of the internet service providers must hand over their data (via a court order from a judge). Basically as previous poster mentioned I dont think the goverment cares what sites you visit but they are just trying to weed out the terrorists and pedophiles. There is a fine line between our privacy rights and what is best for society as a whole in terms of our national security. Where that line should be drawn is a question for debate. If you have nothing to hide than is it realy a big deal if the government inadvertantly knows what web site you visit in its quest to foil terrorism? To me NO -- but thats just me. In my opinion it seems that if a business can offer internet speeds at 100 times faster for the same cost as the competition then ultimately they will take over the market. *******

Google stood up to China from what I understand--if they do that I don't think the US will intimidate them...
