Does anyone know, if a property is being taxed based on, say, $180,000 value and a new appraisal states it is only worth $130,000, can a homeowner contest the taxed value and what is the liklihood of actually getting it decreased? I am referring to Charlotte County by the way.
Thanks for any input

You're being taxed on the certified assessed value, less any exemptions. So, they tax you on the certified taxable value. Those values are as of Jan, 2008. I would expect that your taxes may go down next year. I've heard that some people are trying to get their taxes decreased. I haven't heard of any successful stories.

I thought you might chime in on that one. Thanks. I'll definitely try using the new appraisal to get the taxes down. It would be sickening (and should be illegal) if we were being taxed extra for non-valued property.
