For full article:

The Southwest Florida Water Management District’s governing board recently declared April Water Conservation Month.

“April is historically one of the driest months of the year and typically marks the peak demand season for public water suppliers,” a news release from the water district, commonly known as Swiftmud, stated.

The region is currently under a Modified Phase I Water Shortage through July 1, which prohibits “wasteful and unnecessary” water use and limits outdoor irrigation in Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties.

For residents in Charlotte, Sarasota and DeSoto counties, twice-per-week lawn watering is still allowed.

Swiftmud is offering the following 10 tips residents can use to lower their monthly water bill and conserve water:

An I-Team investigation into rogue movers caught the attention of Florida lawmakers, and now there's a new law that aims to help consumers. Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 304 into law on Tuesday. The new measure forces movers to carry liability insurance to cover damaged or lost goods. It also requires brokers to notify the customer if a third party will be hauling their belongings.

SMH: Spine surgery less invasive, improving

For full article:

Experts note 1-in-10 Americans have chronic back pain “so serious it impacts their ability to perform everyday activities,” according to a Sarasota Memorial Hospital news release.

It notes many avoid surgery with “large incisions and long recovery times” constituting the reasoning.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital states its “robotic and minimally invasive surgical techniques are now allowing spine surgeons to repair a wide range of spine conditions through key-hole incisions, and giving patients with debilitating back pain more options than ever before,” a news release states.

It quotes Dr. Sasha Vaziri about the situation.

“A decade ago, minimally invasive techniques were used sparingly because of the spine’s close proximity to critical nerve and vascular structures,” Dr. Sasha Vaziri said.

Vaziri is a neurosurgeon, according to a news release.

“The technology has come a long way, especially in the last few years,” he stated. “Today’s tools and technologies give us the precision, visualization and flexibility to address a much wider range of diseases and disorders through tiny incisions instead of one large opening, and that leads to less pain and downtime for our patients.”

It notes not everyone is a candidate. But it can help people dealing with herniated discs, synovial cysts and other spinal conditions. The new techniques end with shorter hospital stays, faster recovery and lower risk of infection and complication, the news release states.

When Norman Love found out there was a spot open for his Norman Love Confections next to Trader Joe’s in The Shoppes at UTC, he just melted.

Love wanted to capitalize on the walk-by traffic that he knew Trader Joe's would generate.

Norman Love Confections opened its first chocolate salon at University Town Center in November 2020. The store was located on the west side of University Parkway in Sarasota. A Pura Vida cafe will be taking its place.

The salon relocated across the parkway to Manatee County after the opportunity arose. It now sits right next door to Trader Joe’s.

Tesla could open its new store in Sarasota as early as the end of April.

The electric car manufacturer has built a two-story, 55,000-square-foot dealership at University Town Center in the mall’s eastern district, facing the Macy’s and backing up to Interstate 75.

Earlier this week, crews were putting the finishing touches on the dealership, working mostly inside. Outside, it looked ready to go with the signage up, the exterior complete and the parking lot empty but for a few work trucks.
